Kindling is material like small sticks and twigs you can use to start a fire. What would it mean to call my art kindling?

Painting allows me to react to everything and anything around me. But when I paint, these reactions are flowing through me, mixing with anything else that’s on my mind or lingering in my heart. And when I stop painting, the result is like an artifact, an object I can observe and try to better understand.

Kindling is the start of something. Or maybe it signals a readiness to come alive, to truly see what lies in those dimmed corners of the mind, and let the light inside of me burn a little brighter.

About the Into the Light collection

No matter how big the grief, I can't help but recognize again and again this incredible fact: there is something gentle and sweet just beyond the deepest heartbreak. When I let go of judgement and cease all the watching-myself-from-the-outside and I finally allow myself to speak freely or to let my tears ring out raw and true, I feel connected to this pure, bittersweet power. In those moments, I fear nothing. There is only that one moment and a sense of oneness with the truth.
